Shillong, May 29: Umiam lake’s position among water sports hubs in India got a huge boost with successful completion of the third YAI North East Regatta 2025 with over 80 participants including several girls showcasing their sailing skills at the picturesque lake.

Highlighting a technological milestone, the minister pointed out, “For the first time, we have live-streamed the entire event, allowing parents to follow their children’s progress remotely.”

The minister spoke passionately about the venue, stating, “We are fortunate to have one of the world’s most picturesque lakes right here.” He added that facilities around the lake are being upgraded.
He also announced a significant investment plan of over Rs 100 crore is underway to further upgrade the facilities, including offering lake cruises. The Hon’ble Minister expressed his anticipation, “We look forward to welcoming you all back next year with these upgraded facilities.”
