3 arrested with stolen bikes from Assam

Shillong, Aug 28: Three persons from Assam were arrested for allegedly trying to sell stolen motorcycles at Weiloi in East Khasi Hills.

District police chief Vivek Syiem said acting swiftly on reliable information on August 27, Mawsynram police laid an ambush and apprehended the trio, while one accomplice fled into the jungle.

Three suspected stolen bikes – two Yamaha R15s (AS-01-FV-4193 and AS-27-F-1263) and a Royal Enfield Hunter 350 (AS-25-Z-1346) – were recovered.

The accused, hailing from Tamulpur in Assam, are in custody for verification and legal action and Assam police has been informed, the SP said, adding that search is on for the absconding suspect.

“As far as the state is concerned, we are following strictly as per Yellow Book,” he said.

On criticism of VVIP/VIP culture, Tynsong said SOPs were issued two months ago on use of sirens and vehicles by VIPs.

“It is already there in black and white. I am sure these SOPs will be strictly followed by all concerned VIPs,” he added.
