Shillong, Feb 16: Round the clock police patrol in the city resulted in nabbing of three persons while attempting to steal a two-wheeler from Keating Road early Sunday.
The Sadar police station patrol came across the trio, who came in a Suzuki Swift tourist taxi (ML04C-7163) and were about to steal a scooty No (MLO5AC-8352) by cutting and joining the ignition wire around 4.50 am.
The car driver identified as Ribellang Phyllei (25) from Biar, Laskein, West Jaintia Hills was caught red handed while the other two managed to escape the scene taking advantage of darkness, East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said in a statement.
Later, they – Empyrkhat Dhar (21) from Saphai and Steven Syngkon (19) from Iaw Thymme – were caught at the checkpoint at Mawryngkneng while fleeing towards West Jaintia Hills.
Various kinds of tools used in stealing vehicles besides two helmets and some cash were recovered from them.
The SP said they could be involved many other cases of vehicle thefts.
