Shillong, Mar 12: Five blocks in West Garo Hills district have 48 schools with single digit and zero enrolment, education minister Rakkam A Sangma said while replying to a question in the assembly on Wednesday.
The blocks are Dadenggre, Selsella, Tikrikilla, Demdema and Rongram.
The schools include eight government lower primary schools (LPS) with enrolment of less than 10 students. Demdema Govt LP School in Demdema block has only 4 students enrolled while Damjonggre Govt LPS in Selsella block records 3 students under its enrolment.
Under Tikrikilla block, there are six government LPSs with less than 10 students – Angaripara LPS (8), Boldaldamgre LPS (5), Borogoabal LPS (9), Didapara LPS (9), Ganarugre LPS (2) and Kathalbari LPS (9), the minister said in his reply tabled in the assembly.
In Dadenggre block, there are also four SSA Upper Primary Schools (UPSs) with less than 10 students – Dallanggre UPS (8), Rebugre UPS (6), Rangsagre UPS (5) and Nengchonggre UPS (2).
However, the maximum number of 15 such government LPSs are under Rongram block – Dalmagre LPS (0), Balupara LPS (7), Bawegre LPS (8), Bibragre LPS (6), Chiokgre LPS (3), Dittegre LPS (5), Dopannggre R LPS (2), Galwang Cherrangre LPS (6), Ganol Songma LPS (7), Masumata LPS (5), Pagugre LPS (5), Rongram Allagre (8), Songgitalgre LPS (7), Soragre LPS (3), Galwang Chidekgre LPS (8).
Besides, there are 9 non-government LPSs with less than 10 students under Rongram block – Sakalgre LPS (8), Donsimagre LPS (9), Watregre Songgitcham (6), Waribokgre LPS (9), Chasamkolgre LPS (4), Derikgre LPS (3), Songkonggre LPS (9), Anogre Apal LPS (0) and Mondagre LPS (0).
There are 10 SSA LPSs with single-digit enrolment – Boldam Songma LPS (2), Danang Songma LPS (9), Kalakgre LPS (8), Megongdamgre LPS (4), New Tebronggre LPS (8), New Ampanggre LPS (4), Asakgre LPS (6), Kama Dumitdikgre LPS (4), Sanchong Dojokgre LPS (8), Wakantagre LPS (8), and Arranggre Adhoc LPS (0), he said.
