Shillong, Oct 9: A seven-year-old child, who went missing from Nongrah here on Wednesday evening, was found murdered inside a forest at Mawpat on Thursday.
The child, Kyrshanbor Kharmudai, was went missing from his house at Lum Myrboh Nongrah around 4 pm on Wednesday, police said.
Confirming the incident a case of homicide, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said, “The post-mortem report will provide a clearer picture of the kind of injury.”
Given the nature of the crime, formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is likely in this connection.
“We will sit down as this will warrant the requirement of SIT because it is a child who has been murdered…,” Syiem said.

He said preliminary investigation had suggested that the body was placed at the spot of recovery, meaning the murder took place somewhere else.
The heinous crime took place within less than a month of a four-year-old girl found dead in the city. She too belonged to the same area.
A 13-year-old boy was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) for his alleged involvement in the incident.
Syiem said police will investigate all possibilities, including connection between the two cases.
“Right now, I don’t see a connection. It could be an isolated case because the accused of the first case is already been ascertained and identified but nonetheless, we will investigate and find out everything into the matter,” he assured.
As the incident raised concerns among citizens, Syiem emphasized the need for vigilance and precautionary measures, such as installing CCTVs, lighting public areas, and monitoring children.
He also urged locals to report any suspicious activity to the police emergency number 112.

Boy went outside to play, says aunt
The seven-year-old boy Kyrshanbor Kharmudai, whose murdered body was found inside a forest a Mawpat here, went outside to play while his siblings were playing near the house on Wednesday evening, according to his aunt.
Kyrshanbor’s mother passed away two years ago, his aunt Trilin Kharmudai used to look after him.
Sharing the account of how her nephew went missing, Kharmudai said she was at home taking care of her baby when Kyrshanbor went missing from their residence at Lum Myrboh Nongrah.
However, she claimed that she did not see with whom he had gone out to play.
“I was breastfeeding my baby and taking a nap. They were playing football among siblings, but he didn’t want to join in. He went out to play outside, and I thought it was okay since they always play outside,” she said.
Kharmudai further stated that when she woke up from her sleep, she called out for Kyrshanbor, but he was nowhere to be found. She searched for him everywhere, including the neighbor’s house and Lapalang, but couldn’t find him.
A student of nursery standard, Kyrshanbor always loved to play alone but would always return home when called for food, she said.
She also recalled that he was wearing a green shirt initially but had changed into a red t-shirt before he went missing.
Asked about potential enemies, Kharmudai said he was just a kid and she couldn’t think of anyone who would harm him.
