8 illegal immigrants ‘pushed back’ into Bangladesh: Assam CM

Guwahati, Jul 10: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said eight illegal immigrants were “pushed back” into Bangladesh after being nabbed near the border.

Sarma said protecting Assam’s interests is foremost for his government, and illegal immigrants will not be allowed to stay in Assam and threaten its identity.

“Early this morning, @assampolice PUSHED BACK 5 Bangladeshis and 3 Rohingyas back to Bangladesh from Cachar and Sribhumi,” he said in a post on X.

Assam’s Sribhumi, Cachar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar districts share a 267.5-km-long border with Bangladesh. (PTI)
