Meghalaya Police jobs: HC dismisses plea for age relaxation

Shillong, Sept 11: A petition seeking relaxation in upper age limit in the recruitment of jobs in Police department was rejected by the Meghalaya High Court on Tuesday.

“No prima facie case is made out for the grant of any interim orders at this stage, and the prayer accordingly stands rejected,” stated the court order while disposing of the petition filed by one Barilang Pyngrope and three others – Joplang Shyrkon, Ialehlang Kharkongor and Harningstar Marshiangbai.

Earlier, appearing herself to present her case, Pyngrope had sought “uniform application” of age relaxation as notified in a government order in 2022, in the recruitment to 1,255 vacancies in various posts in the Police department advertised in on 6 March 2024.

She termed “discriminatory” the order in carving out an exception for certain categories of posts such as Home (Police) department.

Meanwhile, the court also observed that the recruitment process was already under way with the last date of receipt of applications being as far back as 31 May 2024.
