Shillong, Oct 29: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar has expressed the hope that the issue arising out of the protest against Shillong Ropeway project will be resolved soon.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Dhar said the government is examining the matter as he asserted the legality of the project.
Referring to the controversy in the wake of protests by some local residents alleging their consent was not taken for the project, Dhar said, “We hope it will be okay in the next few days, few weeks. The project is as per law, we have obtained all necessary clearances from all concerned departments.”
He said such issues are temporary and take time to make people understand.
“These types of issues come and go. Don’t worry, it will be solved. Sometimes it takes time to make people understand because it is such a big project,” he said.
He also maintained that the government made no hurry in pushing the project ahead.
“We did not rush it and we followed step by step as per law and the Chief Minister has clarified very well. Before sanctioning, we got all necessary clearances and then we called tender,” Dhar said.
He said the government and district council will have to work together.
“Government knows how to work and the district council works in its own way but we have to work together for the benefit of the people. Yes, maybe some questions are there but no issues, we will work together,” he added.
Illegal coal transport
Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Thursday said law will take its own course on illegal coal transportation after a coal-laden truck overturned in the city and caused massive traffic jams.
“Whatever illegal is on, law will take its own course. Steps are already in place. Whoever does illegal, law will take its own place,” Dhar said.
Earlier on Tuesday, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing filed an FIR at Lumdiengjri police station in connection with the overturning of a coal-laden truck at Jaiaw.
