Cattle rescued; sugar seized by BSF

Shillong Sept 15: Troops of the BSF Meghalaya successfully thwarted a cattle smuggling attempt at the international border of the state, on Saturday.

A total of 64 cattle, which were meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh through West Jaintia Hills, were rescued during a special operation conducted by the security force.

The 64 cattle were hidden in a jungle area. The seized cattle were handed over to the police station concerned for further necessary action.

Meanwhile in another operation, the troops also seized 12,000 kg of sugar loaded in three Bolero pickups from East Khasi Hills.

The BSF has seized more than 800 cattle and 2310 tons of sugar from different border areas of Meghalaya since January 2024.
