Shillong, Oct 19: The Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF) on Monday called for peace and harmony following reports of sporadic incidents during Durga Puja in Meghalaya.
Condemning the incidents, SAFF president Most Revd Dr Purely Lyngdoh said the forum was deeply concerned and anguished over the unfortunate events, adding that such attempts were aimed at disrupting Meghalaya’s communal fabric.

“Such acts by miscreants are a deliberate attempt to disturb the communal harmony and peaceful atmosphere of our state,” SAFF said, adding, “Meghalaya has always been an abode of peace where all faiths and communities coexist and celebrate each other’s festivals with mutual respect and brotherhood.”
The forum appealed to all citizens to uphold unity and not give in to rumours.
SAFF said it had appealed to the state government and district administration “to take immediate and strict action against the perpetrators and to ensure adequate security for the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja.”
“We also urge the public not to believe rumours and to extend full cooperation to the administration in maintaining law and order,” it added.
