Latiplang Kharkongor laid to rest

Shillong, Sept 16: Former Chief Executive Member (CEM) and sitting MDC of Nongthymmai, Laitphlang Kharkongor was laid to rest at the Nongthymmai Presbyterian Crematory ground, on Sunday. 

Kharkongor passed away on Friday evening at Shillong Civil Hospital after a prolonged illness.

Kharkongor became the first independent to be elected as KHADC CEM after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) executive committee led by Teinwell Dkhar of the UDP was defeated in the no-confidence motion.

Kharkongor was elected to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) four consecutive times since 2004.

He was also elected as Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the KHADC, serving from November 22, 2019 to March 20, 2020.
