NEP 2020 helps understand world better: Rakkam Sangma

Kiang Nangbah Govt College holds 58th foundation day

Shillong, Sept 18: Education minister Rakkam A Sangma on Tuesday underlined the role of NEP 2020 in not just securing a government job or gaining academic excellence, but also shaping up minds to understand the world better and contribute meaningfully to it.

“National Education Policy (NEP) 202O is a visionary step, designed to prepare students for the challenges of 21st century,” he said while addressing the 58th foundation day of Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai.

Chief adviser to government of Meghalaya Lahkmen Rymbui, local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla and education adviser HM Shangpliang also attended the occasion.

Praising the college for making significant contribution to growth of higher education in Jaintia Hills region in the past five decades, the minister said, “Teachers are the true architecture of the society and responsible for nurturing young minds with both knowledge and ethical values.”

Referring to initiatives such as Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) launched last year, he said the present government has made sustained efforts to boost the education scenario in the state.

The minister along with others unveiled the ITEP plaque at the college.

He reiterated the commitment to enhance facilities in government colleges and announced that vacancies in higher education would soon be filled.

On the high dropout rate in the state, he called for a collective responsibility of teachers, officials and community in encouraging students to return to school.

Two toppers – Naina Limbu (Botany) and Mysonity Thoo (Physics) – and two PhD holders – Sharailyn War Sohlang and Saralyne Kharbhih – were also felicitated during the programme.
