Shillong, Oct 5: A committee constituted by the state government to look into the demands of taxi associations for ban on outside tourist vehicles from plying to tourist destinations in Meghalaya, will hold discussions with the various stakeholders next week.
Informing this while speaking to reporters, tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh said there was another discussion with the various stakeholders of tourism including the Khasi Taxi Drivers’ Association last week.
On the demand for Sikkim model wherein outside tourist vehicles are not allowed to enter state, the minister said the committee will suggest the possible solutions and that there’s nothing that can’t be solved.
The committee comprises representatives from Tourism, Law, and Police departments, district authorities and other relevant departments besides the tourism stakeholders.
Earlier, tourist taxi associations of Khasi Hills warned of resorting to hunger strike if the government failed to fulfill their demand.
