Close to 3000 homes damaged in Dalu region 

TURA, Oct 9: as many as 2,630 houses have been damaged and six lives lost in villages under the Dalu C&RD Block of West Garo Hills, the chief minister was told during a review meeting on Tuesday.

The administration has set up 68 relief camps and provided food and shelter to the affected people.

In the review meeting, the chief minister directed officials to conduct a study of rivers and water bodies and the flood-prone area for flood mitigation and undertake flood management initiatives to avoid such damages to life and property in the future.

He ordered immediate repair of roads and bridges in the Block and ensure supply of essentials to the affected population.

He also met the inmates of the relief camps at Dalu and recorded their concerns.

Meanwhile, the chief minister held a review with South Garo Hills district administration at Dimapara to take stock of the relief measures and assess the damages caused by flash floods and landslides in the district.

Altogether 40 villages in 3 blocks of the district were affected by the natural calamity, affecting a population of 2,510 in 462 households.
