Ropeway project to start next month: Paul

Shillong, Oct 18: The construction of Shillong ropeway project will start by next month and the companies bidding for it are all qualified for international standard for ropeway projects in Europe, said tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh.

“Shillong ropeway project has made a lot of headway and work on the ground should start by the middle of November this year,” he told reporters.

Estimated cost of the much-awaited project is ₹175 crore, and the minister said there has been no cost escalation so far.

“I am told that three companies are bidding for the project and they are all qualified up to what is known as CEN standards, which is international standard for ropeway projects in Europe,” he said.

“Because of our topography and contours, we are going for the highest possible standard, the European standard called the CEN,” he added.
