Shillong, Oct 30: Delegation from the Federation of Khasi States led by its president Dr Kestonbel Manik Syiemlieh paid a courtesy call to Governor CH Vijayashankar at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the delegation discussed a range of issues pertaining to the welfare and development of the indigenous Khasi people, as well as matters concerning the traditional governance systems of the Khasi states. Dr Syiemlieh briefed the Governor on the historical and cultural significance of the Khasi States and their role in preserving the rich heritage of the region.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of the federation in promoting and safeguarding the traditions and customs of the Khasi people and emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous knowledge in the modern era and reiterated the need for collaborative efforts between traditional institutions and the state government to ensure the socio-economic progress of the local communities.
Meanwhile, Air Marshal Surat Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command, Indian Air Force, also met the Governor on Tuesday.
Governor CH Vijayashankar and the Air Marshal engaged in discussions on the role of the Indian Air Force in the defence and security of the northeastern region and its contribution towards humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
The Governor lauded the Air Marshal and his team for their professionalism, dedication, and the vital role the Eastern Air Command plays in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and expressed his appreciation for the IAF’s support to the people of Meghalaya and the northeastern states during times of natural calamities.
