Athlete from Mahendraganj first from state to compete in HYROX race
Shillong, Aug 2: Emerging athlete Pormeet Hajong has put Meghalaya on the world map in endurance sports by competing in HYROX, one of the world’s fastest-growing fitness racing competitions.
Hailing from South West Garo Hills, Hajong is the first athlete from Meghalaya to compete in high-stake competition.
He made his debut in the internationally recognised event, which combines long-distance running with demanding functional fitness challenges.
Hajong is the son of Bilal Hajong of Billdoba, Mahendraganj in South West Garo Hills district.
HYROX is a standardised global race where competitors complete 8 km of running interspersed with eight workout stations, including SkiErg, sled push and pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmer’s carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls, testing endurance, strength and mental resilience under identical race conditions worldwide.
Sports enthusiasts in Meghalaya have hailed Pormeet’s achievement as a breakthrough for the state’s growing fitness community, saying it could encourage more young athletes to explore competitive functional fitness on national and international platforms.
His debut also reflects the rising popularity of endurance sports in Meghalaya, adding another chapter to the state’s expanding presence in emerging sporting disciplines.
