Tura, Nov 8: A criminal gang that was out on a recee to commit crime has been busted by West Garo Hills police with arrest of three men and recovery of a pistol and a dagger in the Dadenggre civil sub division region on Thursday night.
The arrests happened during a routine mobile patrolling by police near Chibonggre village. A white maruti Alto car coming from the opposite direction was flagged down by the police team on duty at the nakka checking point.
Seeing the police barricade, the vehicle stopped meters away and tried to reverse the car to get away The road being narrow, the vehicle was unable to make a u-turn and got bogged down.
One of the occupants managed to jump out of the vehicle and flee into the darkness while the remaining three men were nabbed.
The Alto car bearing the registration AS 18K 6601 was searched and a 7.65 mm pistol that was concealed inside the dash board of the car was recovered along with a Khukri (dagger), one black handkerchief, one bandana and three mobile phones.
The arrested men have been identified as Hemjit Rabha (age 32) of Khardang village in Assam, Assam, Lakingsbirth Marak (30) of Anogre, and Rikkam D. Sangma.(27)
of Kama Dorenggre village of Anogre, Garo Hills. All three have since been taken in for interrogation.
