Guwahati, Nov 26: In a breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, Guwahati Police seized 364 grams of heroin worth Rs. 3.5 crore during a special operation near Rishi Marbles on National Highway 37 at Maligaon in the city on Tuesday.
Two individuals were arrested in connection with the case- Mofizul Ali (26), the truck driver, son of Late Jamuddin Ali, from Jiyaguri under Kokrajhar PS in Kokrajhar district and Surat Jamal (30), the truck handyman, son of Sikkim Ali, from Chirukuta in Dhubri district.
Speaking to the media, Commissioner of Police Diganta Barah stated, “A special Naka operation was conducted on NH-37 near Rishi Marbles based on credible intelligence regarding the transportation of suspected NDPS substances.”
The operation was led by ACP Azara, in coordination with OC Jalukbari, IC Maligaon, and the Special Operations Group (SOG) team, under the supervision of DCP WGPD.
During the operation, the team intercepted a 1109 truck (Registration No. AS-18AC-6959).
A meticulous search of the vehicle uncovered 32 soap cases containing heroin.
Barah confirmed that follow-up actions are underway to investigate the network involved in the transportation of the narcotics. The seizure marks a crucial step in the city’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and dismantle illegal networks.
Despite intensified security measures, drug trafficking through Guwahati continues to escalate, with smugglers adopting increasingly sophisticated methods to transport narcotics across the state. The recent seizure of heroin worth Rs. 3.5 crore highlights the persistence and ingenuity of drug networks despite the robust efforts of law enforcement agencies.
