Organic turmeric project benefits 100 farmers in Ri-Bhoi

Shillong, Dec 1: An organic turmeric project funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC) and initiated by Hid Foundation Shillong has been taken up involving 100 farmers at Marnagar and Umden in Ri-Bhoi district.

While there are 100 farmers directly benefited by project over 1,000 members of farmer families have been able to reap the benefit of the project, according to Jinysha D Maiong, chief executive officer (CEO), Hid Foundation.

The selected farmers have been provided with planting materials, manure, bio-fertilizers, and their daily wages, he said.

There was 100% implementation project in the first year and 75% progress made in the second year, he added.

“The project is crucial to address the insufficiency of high-quality turmeric seed rhizome and to promote the rural livelihood of the farmers of the region,” Maiong said.
