HM urged to reject VC’s request for security

Shillong, Dec 2: The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has urged union home minister Amit Shah to reject NEHU vice-chancellor Prof PS Shukla’s request for adequate security during the latter’s resumption of office on Monday.

Stating that Central armed forces are entrusted with the vital role of safeguarding the nation’s integrity, HITO said, “We fear that if Mr Shukla is granted access to such significant manpower, he may misuse it to exert undue influence over students and faculty members, potentially using these forces to serve his personal agenda.”

The HITO also accused the VC of showing a blatant disregard for the rich traditions and customs of the Hynniewtrep people.

“Shockingly he has openly defied a directive issued by the Mawlai Town Dorbar, a body comprising 17 Dorbar Shnongs, which has explicitly banned his entry into the University campus,” it stated.
