CM allays public fear of parting with land for devp projects
Shillong, Dec 4: Chief minister Conrad K Sangma has made an appeal to the people of the state to fully utilise the “CM Connect” platform to submit their queries and needs and enable the government to effectively address them.
The outreach programme launched in February this year has given an opportunity to the people to directly raise their concerns and grievances before the chief minister, said chief minister Conrad Sangma while addressing a CM Connect programme held at Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills district on Tuesday.
This is an initiative for the citizens to directly reach out to the government to air concerns, raise queries and provide suggestions, said the chief minister while explaining the method of functioning of CM Connect.
It is also an opportunity for the government to listen and resolve the issues of the people, he said while urging the MLAs, department heads to connect with the people at their level.
Noting that the CM Connect at Nongstoin was the fifth such programme conducted in the state, the chief minister said he would continue the momentum to bring governance closer to the people.
Inviting more public queries to the CM-Connect helpline numbers – 1971, 18003456851 and 9436394363, he said the platform that functions both online and offline is easily accessible as it is also integrated with social media platform such as WhatsApp.
“It bridges traditional communication methods with modern digital tools,” he said.
Meanwhile, the CM-Connect programme at Nongstoin was attended Nongstoin MLA Gabriel Wahlang, Mawshynrut MLA Methodious Dkhar, Rambrai Jyngam MLA RG Momin, officials from different departments, and representatives from villages under Nongstoin C&RD block.
The issues flagged by the local people at the CM-Connect programme centered around sanctions for roads and bridges, health centers, tourism infrastructure development, sports infrastructure, availability of banks, enhancement of sanctions for flagships schemes, pgradation of schools, veterinary services, etc.
The chief minister gave a patient hearing to the issues and directed authorities concerned to take prompt and necessary action.
He informed that the government has earmarked ₹10 crore for construction of an artificial turf playground at Mawthungkper village to upgrade sporting skills of the local youth.
Allaying fears of parting with land for development projects, Sangma urged the local community to join hands with the government in paving way for these projects for the greater interest of the community and the society at large.
On demands for interest subvention for bank loan by SHGs, the chief minister informed that he would raise the matter with union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Sangma also announced that sanction for construction of the crucial Maweit-Nongjri road is expected in next three months.
“This is an opportunity to open our borders for international trade especially for this region through this major route,” he said.
Addressing concerns about health facilities, the chief minister noted that the government is fortifying existing health centers to maximize their capacity.
He also stated that the government will provide infrastructure grants to non-profit organisations to enhance their existing healthcare facilities.
Work for upgrading Nongstoin Civil Hospital will be taken up at the earliest, he said.
On sports infrastructure, he informed that the government is investing over ₹1,000 crore to enhance sports infrastructure across the state.
He also assured that the government would work in tandem with the community to establish sports infrastructure in rural areas.
