Not joining Cong as it’s with NPP, says Mukul

Shillong, Dec 5: Trinamool Congress leader and former chief minister Mukul Sangma has denied having any plans to go back to Congress, saying the latter is “hand in glove” with the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).

Reacting to media reports about possibility of the two-time chief minister returning to his original party, he said, “You are asking me when I will go back to Congress? But… isn’t Congress with NPP?”

Accusing the Congress having ties with NPP in district councils, he said, “You go to district council… Congress in Meghalaya is completely directionless. If they had proper direction, they would know whether they should associate with NPP or not.”

He also asserted his position as a TMC leader, saying that he is against the present dispensation, which is “responsible for dislocating the momentum of growth and development of the state”.

“I cannot dilute my focus, my determination to serve the people,” he said.

Asked, he also rejected suggestions that he was skeptic of re-joining Congress because of the presence of veteran leader and former Shillong MP Vincent H Pala.

“It is not the case of individual… It is a complex problem,” he said.

“I started my innings as an MLA. I don’t have a godfather in politics. I don’t believe in shortcut,” he quipped.

Sangma also accused the government of “adopting a modus operandi to slowly displace our own local entrepreneurs and businessmen and in the process dislocate their livelihood”.

Meanwhile, he also refused to rule out on speculation that he would be floating his own political party.
