Shillong, Dec 7: A day-long training on “Organic Potato Production Technology” was organised at ATMA, Nongpoh where 56 farmers from five villages in Ri-Bhoi district took part on Friday.
As part of the programme, 3 tonnes of quality seeds of Potato var, Kufri Chipsona, Sinduri and Chandramukhi, 500 kg vemicompost and 25 litre biofertilisers were also distributed among the farmers.
The programme was organised by ICAR-CRPI (RS), Upper Shillong under NEH programme in collaboration with KVK, Ri-Bhoi ICAR Umiam and ATMA, Nongpoh.
Agriculture scientists interacted with the farmers in order to clarify the latter’s doubts related to farming.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Janani P, Dr Yvonne Angel Lyngdoh, scientists, CPRI, Regional Station, Shillong; Dr Meghna Sarma, SMS, Agronomy KVK, Ri-Bhoi; Dr Tasvina R Borah, Sr. Scientist from ICAR Complex, and Mightystar Lyngdoh, deputy project director, ATMA.
The scientists spoke on different aspects of organic potato crop cultivation right from variety selection, diversification, Integrated disease management, intensification especially table and processing varieties.
A field visit was also conducted to IFS Farm of ICAR, KVK, Ri-Bhoi.
