World Human Rights Day held in GH

Baghmara, December 11: The importance of spreading awareness on the MV Act was highlighted during the World Human Rights Day at District and Session Court Baghmara South Garo Hills on Tuesday.

Informing that 95 per cent of the people in South Garo Hills district drive motorcycles without helmets and that seat belts are not used while driving cars, the Superintendent of Police Shailendra Bamaniya said people should be made aware of the importance of Human Rights and MV Act among others.

He went on to say that most owners fail to register their vehicles in rural areas. He further stated that 10 to 12 road mishaps are reported in South Garo Hills in a year with a fatality count of around 5.

Meanwhile, the District & Session Judge F S Sangma stated that our rights can be respected only if we respect somebody else’s. While appreciating the MLO9 Bikers for partnering with them in spreading the message about Human Rights, he stated that awareness can contribute to a more peaceful and productive society and global peace as well.

The programme ended with the Superintendent of Police flagging off the bike rally.

The event was organised by the District Legal Services Authority South Garo Hills in collaboration with the office of the Superintendent of Police South Garo Hills.
