Meghalaya, Magic Bus to empower youth with life skills

Shillong, Dec 18:  The Government of Meghalaya has announced a landmark three-year partnership with Magic Bus India Foundation to launch a comprehensive initiative aimed at equipping adolescents in government schools with life skills, employability education, and foundational literacy and numeracy programmes.

This initiative is part of the flagship Meghalaya Programme for Adolescent Wellbeing, Empowerment, and Resilience (MPOWER).

Magic Bus India Foundation is a non-governmental organisation which works with young people in underserved communities to help them overcome poverty and access sustainable jobs.

The partnership will target students in Grades 6 to 10, offering life skills and employability education through a teacher-led approach. To ensure the programme’s long-term impact, the state will train Master Trainers to deliver a curriculum tailored to Meghalaya’s unique socio-cultural context. For out-of-school adolescents, Community Learning Centres will provide foundational literacy and numeracy support, enabling these youth to build essential skills and reintegrate into formal education.

The initiative is aligned with Meghalaya’s Vision 2032, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and the state’s broader human development goals. By building a skilled, confident, and capable youth population, the programme aims to unlock the potential of Meghalaya’s adolescents and prepare them for meaningful employment and economic self-sufficiency.

The MoU signing event witnessed the participation of key stakeholders including Sampath Kumar, Principal Secretary & Development Commissioner, Government of Meghalaya, Vijay Kumar Mantri, Commissioner & Secretary, Education Department, Shri. Ramkumar, Additional Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare cum Mission Director-NHM and Swapnil Tembe, Secretary, Education Department, along with the team from Magic Bus India Foundation, led by its Global CEO, Mr. Jayant Rastogi, Dhanashri Brahme, Chief of Programmes and Mr. Pallav Kumar, Regional Director, East & NE, among others.
