NEHUNSA seeks more power for VC in-charge

Memo to union education minister

Shillong, Jan 23: The North Eastern Hill University Non-Teaching Staff Association (NEHUNSA) has sought intervention of union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan for extending statutory powers to the vice-chancellor (in-charge) of the university.

“(We have) appealed to the Union Minister to extend special statutory powers to the Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) for recruiting the advertised posts for Non-teaching staff,” NEHUNSA president Dr WR Synrem said in a statement.

The NEHUNSA made the appeal taking into account the delay in resolving the ongoing crisis in the central university.

The association also urged the union minister to intervene in resolving the ongoing crisis.

Stating that the VC in-charge has limited powers in executing the overall affairs of the university, NEHUNSA said it had caused delay in recruitment of staff for which the posts have been already advertised even as strength of the regular staff is rapidly declining due to retirement.

“If recruitment is not done soon, the university’s administration will surely come to a standstill,” Dr Synrem said.
