MDC hopeful of retaining seat

Shillong, Feb 2: Sitting MDC from Nongkrem Lambor Malngiang on Saturday expressed confidence to retain the seat in the upcoming elections to Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

“We have passed many important Bills and we will continue to bring effective laws for the protection of our people and our land,” he said after filing his nomination papers as an independent candidate on Saturday.

He also emphasised the need to further strengthen Sixth Schedule to protect the indigenous people and their land.

Asked about a complaint filed by VPP legislator Ardent M Basaiawmoit against him, Malngiang refused to comment saying the case is sub-judice.
