Ban on sand-stone mining: DyCM campaigns in Jirang for nephew Rahboklang Tynsong

Shillong, Feb 15: NPP state president and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong has urged the people affected by ban on sand-stone mining to keep their trust on the government to resolve the issue.

“I request you to wait for the right time,” Tynsong said while admitting the negative impact of the ban on livelihood of many people.

He was campaigning for his nephew Rahboklang Tynsong, the NPP candidate from Langkyrdem-Laitkroh constituency in the KHADC elections, at Laitkroh on Saturday.

Asserting his attachment to the area, Tynsong reminded the people that he had represented them as MLA before the delimitation.

Pointing out that the candidate is his nephew, Tynsong said, “After February 24, not only that you will get an MDC, but will also get Prestone as your father. I will continue to be with you and I urge you to let my nephew be a bridge between your elaka and my house and my office in the secretariat.”

He also assured to look into the recent ban imposed on bull fights.

Asserting that there are no bull fights as such, he said the Centre acted on a picture sent by an “outside organisation” about an alleged random bull fight.

He said his government would take “full responsibility” (to resolve the issue).

During an election campaign at Saitsohpen, Sohra on Friday night, the NPP state chief said, “We have met four times with the leaders of the Elaka led by the sordar. We are aware of your problems and sadly till today we are yet to be able to take a final decision on the matter.”

Referring to a similar situation faced by the people of Williamnagar with regard to government land, Prestone said the government had resolved the issue.

He also urged the people of Sohra to extend their full support to the party candidate and former MDC Donnevan Wahlang for all round development of the constituency.

He informed that certain important projects will start in the area which will benefit the people of Saitsohpen and Sohra.
