₹4,000-cr projects a game changer for tourism: Paul

Shillong, Feb 20: Implementation of the various infrastructure development projects – worth around ₹4,000 crore – will be a major game changer for the state’s tourism industry, tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh said on Thursday.

“Major investments are happening in top notch tourism destinations including Umiam, Sohra, New Shillong, Dawki and Garo Hills,” he said.

The projects comprise those with 90:10 ratio funding from Central and state governments and some are externally aided projects (EAPs).

“It will be spread as we would need two years to complete all these projects and some of them given the working season in Meghalaya they will take more than one fiscal year,” he stated.

“These (projects) will be a major game changer,” he said.

Referring to Dawki, which is one of the most visited areas by tourists, he said the upcoming four-lane road connecting the border point will surely trigger tourism infrastructure development in the area.
