Shillong, Sept 14: The Directorate of Health Services (DHS) has withdrawn the MBBS and BDS allotment list for the 2026-27 academic session after the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) raised allegations of merit violations. A fresh list will be published on Tuesday.
Director of Health Services Dr L Mylliem Umlong gave the assurance during a meeting with a JSU delegation on Monday.
The union alleged that candidates with lower NEET scores were allotted seats in premier institutes such as NEIGRIHMS, while higher-ranked candidates who had opted for the same institute were left out.
Citing one case, the JSU said a candidate at Serial No. 30 with 439 marks was allotted NEIGRIHMS, while several higher-ranked candidates who had also opted for the institute were not selected.
“This is a direct violation of merit,” the union said.
The JSU delegation was led by Education Secretary Bocheru Mi Pohsnem, along with Assistant Education Secretary Pysnhailang Suliang, Executive Member Borntifulson Rupon and Shillong Circle member Jefferson Shylla.
The union also questioned the non-disclosure of the Standard Operating Procedure followed for the allotment.
It claimed officials admitted that the allotment was carried out under a newly approved SOP which had not been made public. The JSU said this ignored the transparent procedure laid down in September 2025.
The DHS has now asked students facing discrepancies in choice allotment to submit grievances at dmeshillong@gmail.com by 10 pm on Monday so that the complaints can be considered while revising the list.
The JSU said it would remain vigilant until the process is completed fairly.
“Our demand is simple — no favour, no special consideration. The allotment must be strictly merit-based, honour the choice of college opted by students and follow a transparent, officially notified SOP,” it said.
