Govt extends deadline for border panels to file reports

Shillong, Mar 4: The state government has further extended the deadline for submission of reports by the three Regional Committees on inter-state boundary issue till March 31.

This was informed by the chief secretary DP Wahlang on Monday.

Reports of the regional committees are essential for the governments of Meghalaya and Assam to go for the next round of chief minister level talks on the age-old boundary disputes between the two states.

The two states already stated to have already made some progress towards resolving border disputes in six out of 12 areas of difference while the regional committees are currently taking up the matter for the rest six areas.

Both Meghalaya and Assam governments had constituted three respective Regional Committees headed by senior cabinet ministers along with MLAs and other officials as members for the remaining six areas of differences.

These Regional Committees have been tasked to conduct joint visits to the six areas of differences as part of the exercise to resolve the boundary dispute.
