Guwahati, March 7: Popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, known as “Beer Biceps,” found himself at the centre of a legal firestorm as he appeared before the Guwahati Crime Branch on Friday in connection with an obscenity case linked to his YouTube show India’s Got Latent.
Allahbadia was summoned after widespread outrage erupted over his controversial remarks on the show, which critics slammed as vulgar and inappropriate. Arriving in Guwahati on Thursday, he faced an intense grilling by police officials, with his statements being recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case, registered under Cyber PS case no. 03/2025, cites multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the IT Act 2000, the Cinematograph Act 1952, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act 1986. Authorities accuse Allahbadia of promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions on the controversial show.
His comments about parents and sex, aired during an episode, sparked mass outrage, leading to a legal complaint against him and his co-panellists, including fellow YouTubers Sameer Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Aproova Makhija.
While Allahbadia has now appeared for questioning, summons for Raina and others remain pending.
The controversy has already implicated Chanchlani, who was interrogated last week. Police sources confirm that he cooperated with the inquiry but may be summoned again.
“We have not yet received responses from others linked to the investigation. Fresh summons will be issued soon,” said Guwahati’s Joint Police Commissioner, Ankur Jain.
Meanwhile, the legal battle is escalating. On February 21, the Supreme Court directed the Maharashtra and Assam governments to respond to Allahbadia’s plea, seeking dismissal or transfer of the case to Mumbai.
