Cong must beg for forgiveness’: BJP’s Dilip Saikia rips into opposition ahead of Rabha Hasong polls

BJP declares landslide victory inevitable as campaign reaches fever pitch

Guwahati, April 1: With just two days to go before the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections on April 2, Assam BJP president and MP Dilip Saikia launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing it of decades of betrayal and neglect of the Rabha-Hasong people.

Speaking at a high-energy campaign rally, Saikia declared that before contesting, Congress must “beg for forgiveness” for its historical wrongdoings, including its failure to hold RHAC elections for nearly two decades and the alleged killing of 24 Rabha individuals.

Saikia credited the BJP-led NDA government for being the true champion of Rabha Hasong’s development and security. He claimed that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the BJP has ensured that every community in the region is rightfully included in the democratic process—something Congress allegedly worked to prevent.

“The BJP builds, while Congress betrays,” Saikia asserted, emphasizing that the NDA’s contest in all 36 constituencies is a fight to free Rabha Hasong from Congress’s “legacy of neglect and deceit.” With three seats already secured unopposed, the BJP is confident of a sweeping victory across the remaining 33 seats.

Taking a direct dig at Congress’s track record, Saikia reminded the audience that the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council was formed in 1995 under Congress rule, yet the party never conducted elections. It was only after judicial intervention in 2013 that the first polls were held.

“Congress must answer why it denied democracy to Rabha Hasong for so long,” he thundered. “They must first apologize for their crimes before even daring to ask for votes.”

Referring to the alleged killing of 24 Rabha individuals under Congress rule, Saikia accused the party of not only ignoring the region’s needs but also being complicit in atrocities against its people.

With the campaign in full swing, Saikia made an impassioned appeal to voters, urging them to seize the moment on April 2 by voting for the BJP’s Lotus and NDA’s TV symbol between 7 AM and 3 PM.

“The people of Rabha Hasong have rejected Congress’s divisive politics. The writing is on the wall—BJP’s victory is inevitable,” he declared.

As the RHAC election nears, the BJP is banking on its development narrative, while the Congress faces an uphill battle in the face of fierce criticism. Whether this aggressive campaign translates into an electoral landslide remains to be seen.
