AJP warns Bangladesh’s interim head Muhammad Yunus: ‘If Indians rise, Bangladesh will cease to exist’

Guwahati, April 1: The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has warned Bangladesh’s interim government head, Muhammad Yunus, following his recent remarks in China regarding India’s northeastern states reminding its leadership that the country’s independence in 1971 was possible only due to India’s intervention.

In a scathing statement, AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan criticized Yunus for his alleged comments referring to India’s Northeast as a “landlocked area” and hinting at China’s market potential in the region. The party leaders labeled Yunus’s stance as provocative and ill-advised, especially given Bangladesh’s political instability and economic struggles.

“Bangladesh was born out of India’s benevolence,” AJP leaders stated, condemning Yunus’s shift in diplomatic focus towards China. They also highlighted Bangladesh’s history of political turmoil, noting that just last year, severe unrest forced Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina into exile, paving the way for Yunus to take charge of an already unstable government.

AJP further mocked Bangladesh’s internal situation, pointing out that its own people have vandalized the statues of their founding father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. They argued that a nation unable to conduct stable democratic elections should not attempt to challenge India’s geopolitical position.

Taking a direct swipe at Yunus’s leadership, AJP leaders warned, “If Muhammad Yunus, sitting under Pakistan’s shadow, thinks he can challenge India, then he is living in a fool’s paradise.”

The party also issued a stark warning to Bangladesh, “If India’s 1.4 billion people turn against Bangladesh, it will be reduced to ashes. India sees Bangladesh as a younger sibling, not an equal. Yunus should remember this before making reckless statements.”

The fiery response from AJP underscores the growing tensions following Yunus’s visit to China and serves as a reminder of India’s historical influence in the region.
