HC adjourns Harijan Colony case

Shillong, Apr 9: In order to facilitate negotiations between the Harijan Panchayat Committee and state government, the Meghalaya High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing in the case related to proposed relocation of 342 families of Harijan Colony from Them Iew Mawlong.

“By consent of learned counsel for the parties, this appeal and the connected applications are adjourned till 28th April, 2025 to enable the parties to explore any possibility of settlement,” court order said.

Although the state government had requested the Defence Ministry allot 2.5-3 acres of unutilised defence land near the colony for the relocation, chief minister Conrad K Sangma recently admitted facing constraints in the process due to certain military guidelines.
