Shillong Medical College may start session this year

Shillong, Apr 10: The 2025-26 academic session of Shillong Medical College is expected to commence soon and that of Tura Medical College by next year, health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said on Wednesday.

Informing about a review meeting chaired by chief minister Conrad K Sangma on the progress of preparations for commencing the medical colleges, the minister said, “We were informed that everything is on schedule… infrastructure that need to be put in position were all in advanced stage.”

The National Medical Commission (NMC) is expected to conduct inspection of Shillong Medical College sometime in May, she said.

Meanwhile, she said, funding for improvement of infrastructure of Tura Civil Hospital and Tura MCH is on fast track.

However, the mode of operation for Tura Medical College has still remained a concern, she said.
