The high-level meeting, held with senior NFR officials, focused on key performance metrics including freight loading, punctuality, safety, and revenue generation.
Reddy acknowledged NFR’s consistent upward trajectory, particularly in freight movement, which saw notable improvements in the final quarter of FY 2024–25.

As of March 2025, NFR achieved a total freight loading of 10.681 million tonnes, marking a 4.3% increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Reddy noted a significant rise in commodity movement during March. Compared to the same period last year, NFR recorded marked growth in multiple categories like Cement loading increased by 9.6%, Dolomite by 9.1%, Fertilizer by 28.6% and ‘Others’ category by 9.6%.

Additionally, there was a notable surge in specific sectors, with Potato loading rising by 54.5%, Stone Chips by 61.9%, and Miscellaneous goods by 7.4%. Cumulatively, as of March 2025, NFR achieved a freight loading volume of 10.681 million tonnes for FY 2024 – 25 registering a 4.3% increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.

These figures, Reddy noted, reflect the expanding role of NFR in facilitating regional trade and logistics. He encouraged the zone to continue adopting innovative practices and infrastructure upgrades to stay aligned with the fast-evolving needs of India’s logistics and supply chain sectors.

In addition to the performance review, Reddy visited the Azara goods shed, where he met with local traders and freight service stakeholders. The interaction provided an open forum for traders to share feedback on operational challenges and suggest improvements for last-mile connectivity and service efficiency.

Reddy assured them of Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to modernize infrastructure and enhance the customer experience. Emphasizing technology-driven growth, he highlighted NFR’s plans to streamline operations and improve freight handling capacity in the coming financial year.

The goal, he said, is not only to meet freight targets but to contribute meaningfully to the economic development of the Northeast, positioning NFR as a critical enabler of regional progress. With its eyes on long-term growth and modernization, NFR is gearing up to play a bigger role in driving both regional logistics and national rail revenue in FY 2025–26.
