Shillong, Apr 29: The vice-chancellor in-charge of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Prof SM Sungoh, has urged the state police to immediately withdraw the men in uniform deployed on the campus.

In a letter to the director general of police (DGP) following the police deployment on Monday, Prof Sungoh said, “It has come to the notice of the administration through the Security Officer, NEHU, Shillong Campus that a large number of police personnel have entered the NEHU Campus without my knowledge.”

As a result, she said, the students are feeling intimidated and experiencing fear psychosis within the campus.

“Given the nature of our Institution and its commitment to providing a safe and non-intimidating environment for students, the presence of these personnel has caused significant Fear Psychosis within the Campus,” she added.

Keeping in view the situation, she urged the DGP to remove the security personnel immediately from the campus.
