No construction at Laban site

Shillong, Oct 28: No construction work has begun at the proposed lower terminal of the Shillong Ropeway Project at Laban, stated the Meghalaya Tourism Department following closure of the project office by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

The land is government property and the site had been used as a temporary camp for preliminary activities, said RM Kurbah, Commissioner and Secretary of the Tourism Department.

“There has been no construction till date. No digging has been done for the six pillars or the terminal,” she said.

The temporary camp was set up to facilitate preliminary work, including soil testing, approach road development and ground levelling, she said.

Maintaining that the licensing process was still underway, she said the department had followed the required procedures.
