
Shillong, May 3: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has offered Special Scholarships for 500 students of North East for 2025-26 academic session, stated a press release.
These scholarship scheme, announced in Guwahati on Saturday, aim to promote diversity and inclusivity by supporting deserving and meritorious students from diverse backgrounds, added the release.
Informing about USTM’s “legacy of providing free education”, public relations officer (PRO) Dr Rani Pathak Das said nearly 20% of its students receive free or concessional education.

Associate professor Dr Rashmi Baruah said students from over 30 different communities and tribes across North East are availing free education at the institution.
Informing about the scholarship scheme, Dean Prof Gayatree Goswamee said, the 500 scholarships will include several categories – Merit Based (250), Sports Achievements (50), Cultural Achievements (50), Children of Tea Garden Worker (50), Inhabitants from Majuli & Dhemaji (20), Freedom fighter / Martyr’s family (20), Violence and conflict affected children (20), Children of Media fraternity (20) and Orphan / Single Girl child (20).
Director (Operations) Debasish Saha spoke on USTM’s national and international rankings, accreditations, and quality research and development.
Meanwhile, Nurmahmud Ali, director (Admissions & Training and Placement Division) announced 100 per cent scholarships for the toppers of state boards of North Eastern states.
