KLO threatens expulsion, action against members tied to ULFA(I)

Guwahati, May 8: The Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) issued a stern warning on Thursday, declaring that any member maintaining ties with the banned ULFA(I) will face severe consequences — including expulsion, retaliation against their families, and revocation of their Koch Rajbongshi certificates.

This warning comes after media reports on May 3 suggested that Tapan Ray alias Haradhan Ray, a former KLO cadre, had contacted ULFA(I). The KLO clarified that Ray is no longer affiliated with the organization.

“Tapan Ray is not a KLO leader,” said organizing secretary Union Koch in a press release. “He surrendered four years ago and has since been removed from our membership list.”

KLO chairman Jivan Singh Koch, who has been engaged in peace talks with the Central government since April 2024, emphasized that any attempt to build relations with ULFA(I) would be seen as a betrayal.

“If any Koch Rajbongshi youth joins ULFA(I), their family won’t be spared either. Their identity certificate will be cancelled,” said Union Koch. “And if necessary, the KLO will take action, even if it means pausing our peace talks with the Centre.”
