Guwahati, May 23: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Friday to discuss a wide range of state issues and developments. The meeting took place at Shah’s official residence in the afternoon.
During the discussion, Sarma briefed Shah on multiple matters concerning Assam, with a focus on the NDA’s decisive victory in the recent Panchayat elections. He also lauded the Union Home Minister for the “gigantic gains” made in eliminating Red Terror, referring to insurgency and left-wing extremism in the region.
In response, Shah congratulated Sarma and the state’s leadership for the strong electoral performance.
Following the meeting, the Chief Minister posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter): “Had the honour of meeting Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah ji in New Delhi today. I briefed him on various matters pertaining to Assam, including the resounding victory of NDA in the recently held Panchayat polls. On the occasion, I also complimented him on the gigantic gains being made in eliminating Red Terror.”
The meeting underscored continued coordination between the Centre and Assam on security, governance, and political strategy in the region.
