Shillong, June 28: Five new villages will be brought under Meghalaya’s territory by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Assam government before August 15, government spokesperson and cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh said on Friday.
He informed this while describing how swiftly the state government acted to diffuse the situation in the wake of the unauthorised plantations by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in the disputed Block-I region and following forceful uprooting of the saplings by villagers from Meghalaya.

On the Langpih sector, Lyngdoh said a final solution is awaited due to a pending visit by the Assam minister, who heads the regional committee for the sector.
He also asserted that Jaintia Hills sector is making progress in terms of reaching a final solution to the border dispute, unlike in the past when Meghalaya’s territory was encroached without any resistance.
Meanwhile, he informed that the government has taken concrete steps to address the issue in Block-I by sending police teams and magistrates to confront their counterparts from Assam.
