‘This is Assam’s final battle’: BJP vows eviction drives will not stop until all encroached land is cleared

Guwahati, July 22: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday declared that eviction drives across the state will continue relentlessly until every inch of illegally occupied land is freed, calling it “the final battle to safeguard the very existence of Assam.”

“This is not just administration—it’s history in motion,” said Assam BJP spokesperson Kalyan Gogoi, echoing Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s stand. “Those who think a few eviction drives will make us retreat are mistaken. We will not stop until the sacrifices of the 855 martyrs of the Assam Movement are fully honored.”

Gogoi praised the government’s ongoing anti-encroachment operations as crucial for protecting the future of Assam’s indigenous communities. He accused the Congress of betraying the people of Assam for decades through what he called “vote-bank politics,” claiming it allowed illegal settlements by Bangladeshi migrants in protected lands for electoral gains.

“Because of Congress’s long-term conspiracy, the Assamese are now facing an existential threat in their own land,” said Gogoi. “Chief Minister Sarma has taken an uncompromising stand to defend Assam’s identity, language, culture, and political rights.”

The BJP also alleged that Congress had systematically altered Assam’s demography through planned migration and encroachment, diluting the indigenous population to shift electoral outcomes. Gogoi said this was not accidental but a calculated effort to transform voter bases and maintain power.

“Election after election, we see more representatives of Bangladeshi origin entering the Assembly. This is the legacy of Congress’s agenda,” he said.

Drawing on Assam’s history, Gogoi referenced icons like Lachit Borphukan, Gopinath Bordoloi, and Bishnu Ram Medhi as protectors of indigenous rights and land. He accused the Congress of insulting their legacy by distributing protected land to illegal settlers.

As the eviction drives expand, Gogoi claimed, the Congress’s “anti-indigenous, vote-driven politics” is being exposed. He challenged the party to stop supporting infiltrators and instead work for the real people of Assam.

“The Assamese are an indomitable people. They have never accepted subjugation—and never will,” he said. “Under Chief Minister Sarma’s leadership, the BJP will ensure that the pride and dignity of Assam’s people are protected for generations,” he added.
