USTM student prepares herbal shampoo

Shillong, July 25: A post-graduate student of University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM), formulated and evaluated a herbal shampoo using indigenous plant species found within the university’s campus, stated a press release.

The research by MSc 4th semester (Botany) student Nayan Teron was carried out under the guidance of associate professor Dr Mautushi Das, the release said.

Several traditionally used herbs with reputed hair-nourishing and conditioning properties were processed and formulated into a herbal shampoo using eco-friendly and scientifically validated methods.

“The results revealed that the shampoo had a well-balanced pH, excellent foaming capacity and stability, efficient cleansing properties, and notable effectiveness against hair fall and dandruff,” it said.
