Assam CM Meets Union Ministers Sonowal and Khattar to push infrastructure and power sector growth

Guwahati, July 29: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Manohar Lal Khattar at Parliament House on Tuesday to discuss key development priorities for the state, with a focus on the waterways and power sectors.

In his meeting with Sonowal, discussions centred on accelerating Assam’s growth through inland water transport and logistics infrastructure. Officials familiar with the meeting said the talks included updates on the International Multi-Modal Logistics Park at Jogighopa and efforts to strengthen Assam’s position in the national waterways network.

“It is always a pleasure to meet @sarbanandsonwal dangoriya and discuss our vision for a #ViksitAssam,” Chief Minister Sarma posted on X (formerly Twitter) following the meeting.

Later in the day, Sarma also met Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to brief him on Assam’s initiatives in strengthening the power sector. The discussions covered upcoming transmission and distribution projects, strategies to reduce power losses, and the launch of new power generation schemes.

Union Minister Khattar appreciated the efforts of the Assam government and assured full support from the Ministry of Power. He emphasised the importance of a robust power infrastructure for sustained economic growth in the region.

The meetings were attended by Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, K.K. Dwivedi, along with other senior officials from both the State and Central governments.

“Held an excellent meeting with Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @mlkhattar ji in New Delhi. We discussed ways to further strengthen Assam’s power sector to drive our growth and the initiatives taken by the State in this direction,” Sarma said in a post on X.

The back-to-back meetings reflect Assam’s push to align with the Centre’s development goals under the vision of a “Viksit Bharat,” with Sarma actively seeking central collaboration on key infrastructure and energy projects.
