Captain Williamson Sangma State University ready to start classes: Rakkam

Shillong, Aug 4: Cabinet minister Rakkam A. Sangma announced that Captain Williamson Sangma State University is ready to start classes, with the admission process currently underway.

The university has received a large number of applications for various courses in both Shillong and Tura.

“Therefore, the state university is ready for the classes now,” he said.

The minister clarified that colleges not affiliated to North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in previous years will now be affiliated to the state university.

“Meanwhile, other government colleges and all because of some technical issues with the NEHU, some will be affiliated to (the state university) from the next academic session,” he stated.

He informed that the state university has already announced admissions for four departments – English, Commerce, Khasi, and Social Work – in its Shillong campus.

For temporary classes, the university will utilise some rooms in Shillong Engineering College building.

Sangma stated that the state government is working on establishing a temporary campus for the university.

However, the matter related to Bijini Complex issue is pending in court, and the government is awaiting a final decision.
