Shillong, Aug 6: Over 30 eligible hawkers and street vendors at Khyndailad area are yet to receive their certificates of vending (CoVs) and the process is under way to grant them the CoVs.
The matter came up for discussion during a meeting of the Provisional Town Vending Committee (PTVC) convened by Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) chief executive officer (CEO) PK Boro on Wednesday.
The PTVC will convene another meeting to discuss and resolve the issues related to distribution of CoVs.
Members of Shillong Roadside Hawkers’ Association (SRHA) and Meghalaya Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors Association (MGSPHSVA) attended the meeting.
SRHA president T Nongbri expressed satisfaction over outcome of the meeting and said the discussion was productive.
The association will continue to work towards addressing concerns of their members, especially eligible vendors who have not yet received CoVs, she said.
“PTVC officials assured that another meeting will be convened to discuss and distribute the certificates to those who are yet to receive them,” Nongbri said.
There are 30-40 vendors in Khyndailad area who are yet to receive CoVs, said an SRHA member, E Chen.
He said the PTVC had forwarded necessary documents to SMB for issuing the CoVs.
“We want to work together with the government to ensure cleanliness of Shillong city,” Chen stated.
