State to strengthen mechanism to monitor influx

Shillong, Aug 7: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma stated that the government is working on a stronger mechanism to monitor influx in the state, considering factors such as the law and order scenario and events happening in neighboring Assam and Bangladesh.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Sangma said, “Regarding the issue of monitoring the overall situation in terms of people coming into the state and going out of the state, it is a matter of concern keeping in mind so many factors, things happening in Assam, things happening in Bangladesh. So if you look at the overall law and order scenario, it is important for us to come up with a strong mechanism.”

The chief minister emphasized that the government will engage with different stakeholders before sharing the details with the public at large.

“We had some challenges when it comes to MRSSA. Therefore, based on the discussion we have had with the law department and other individuals and of course consultations with the senior ministers and senior officials, we are working on something. I think it will be too early for me to say or give details of it. We will be engaging with different stakeholders then we will be sharing it with the public at large,” he said.

Sangma also recently updated the Union Home Minister about the situation on the border of Assam and Meghalaya, as well as the India-Bangladesh border, highlighting the importance of internal security measures.

“I have updated the union home minister about the situation at the border of Assam and Meghalaya as well as the Bangladesh border. From the law and order point of view, of course he has got the intelligence reports coming to him but as a chief minister it is my responsibility to update him about the different internal security measures and issues as well as whatever is happening in the border in terms of India and Bangladesh,” he stated.
